Day 4: Orientation, Houston-like Humidity, and COLBIE CAILLAT!

{6.12.12}

Today I met Dr Ellen Roberts, the coordinator of the MSTAR program, as well as Ann Selph, Kristen Ruck (I call her the "PR Coordinator"), and Angela Bowden (the Momma Hen that coordinates rotations for the Geriatric fellows and the MSTAR students).  One thing that surprised me was how much they really hand-held/spoon-fed the MSTAR scholars.  By spoon-feeding, I mean that they went through every little detailed I had already looked into, told me exactly how to get to places even though I already looked up the bus routes, physically walked me around some parts of campus, parts that I already knew because I had walked around there over winter break. I was especially surprised when they gave me the the medical licenses of all the doctors that I'm shadowing so that I could get credit for my 2nd year clinical experience course. Everyone was really nice and really wanted to help.   The weather was horrible today - rainy, hot, and humid... just like Houston!

The evening was really fun - went to my first legit mainstream concert ever! (I don't count David Crowder Band as mainstream...)  First time that Kevin and I have ever done this yayy.
Me and Kevin in Raleigh Downtown Convention Center.  He looks really tired because he had a test the day of and the day before.
The Lineup:
Andy Grammer was the opening act and he was wonderful! Really knew how to rally up an audience and was a really good singer.  He even went off-stage into the crowd to get us excited and standing - he still sang really well and remember all his lyrics while he was standing on a chair in the audience and taking pictures/singing to this girl in the wheelchair. Really great guy.  Apparently he's legit and his songs are on the radio but I've never him before:
Fine By Me - Andy Grammer

Next up was Colbie Caillat! Really emits that Southern California vibe.  So cute and genuine and personable! And so great live.  There were a couple of songs that I never heard before that I liked,but for some reason they won't play on my computer so I can't remember what they were.  "I Never Told you" is still my favorite song =)

Brighter than the Sun - Colbie Caillat

Superstar Gavin DeGraw was last and I had mixed him up with Tim McGraw.  I didn't know he sang so many songs that are on the radio (including "Chariot" and "Not over you") other than "I don't want to be."  After a couple songs, we left the concert early and got ice cream at McDonald's.
